HR Transformation in an Uncertain World

Tuesday, 19/5/2020
9:30 am to 10:30 am (MAL/PHIL time)

How can human resources be transformed effectively in a volatile world filled with black swan events such as the corona virus ?

Human resource departments are being pressured as never before to demonstrate their contribution and value to their organization. One indication of that is the emergence of so-called HR transformation. While HR transformation is sometimes a term in search of meaning, it usually means a fundamental re-chartering of what the organization’s HR department is to do, why it exists, and what efforts it undertakes. CEOs have continually stated that they want proactive HR departments that operate at the strategic rather than tactical level. And yet they are often disappointed. This session describes how to reinvent and fundamentally transform HR in an organization, to increase the strategic issues that should be the focus of HR. To meet the challenge of the future, HR practitioners must move beyond technical professionals to becoming true HR leaders and strategic change agents.

SESSION OBJECTIVES
Upon completing this session, participants will be able to:

  • Describe what is meant by HR transformation during and after the coronavirus pandemic
  • Review best practices in attracting, developing, and retaining workers—and particularly a work-from-home workforce
  • Examine the key role HR can play during and after a pandemic

COVERAGE:
Part I: Introduction
Part II: Present Conditions—and Predictions about the Future
Part III: HR Transformation Now: What HR Should Do
Part IV: Leading Workers in an Uncertain World: What Managers Should Do
Part V: Summary and Questions & Answers

Leading With A Growth Mindset

Tuesday, 12/5/2020
2.00 pm - 3.00 pm

More than ever, we need a growth mindset right now as leaders. We need to challenge our current thinking on how we approach situations, reflect on how we work and, and what may need to change. But, when we harness this, we enrich our roles and lives as leaders, and those around us!

Regardless of our leadership journey so far, we can all learn new ways of doing things.  Being curious, experimenting and being comfortable with failing are all important aspects that enable us to become better versions of ourselves.

This session will challenge your current mindset and attitude and will get you thinking about your everyday role in a different way, opening you up to new experiences and learning opportunities.  Ultimately, it builds self-awareness.

In this challenging era in our lives, having a growth mindset to lead benefits us all; be it as a people leader or a leader of people, and this session will include how you can:

  • believe you can grow as a leader, and your business through application and experience (even when it’s not going according to plan)
  • embrace and own your journey as a leader, sharing stories and the lessons learnt

PowerTalk #10 - The Path to the Next Normal: So What Now for Leadership?

Tuesday, 21/4/2020
2.00pm - 3.30pm

As societies and businesses cope with the new normal, the priorities for leadership have changed

2020 has so far been a year of great challenge and disruption. The implications of this leadership, work and learning have been rapid and are continuing.

As the outbreak continues to move quickly, some of the perspectives and strategies may rapidly fall out of date. We are witnessing an imminent restructuring to the global economic order, where societies and businesses are having to cope with the ‘new normal’. The economic upheaval is forcing companies to view digitalisation not only as a strategically important issue, but a necessity at the present time.

The post-pandemic world will be a very different place to live in. Digitalisation has now created an even larger leadership gap in companies around the world but as we are witnessing, venturing into the unknown is now viewed as an opportunity rather than a challenge.

So how has COVID-19 changed the priorities for leadership? What are the leadership traits that we should hold on to during this transition and those that we must cultivate, as businesses pivot from a crisis management mindset to a more creative and innovative one to survive the brutal short term in order to thrive in the long run? This webinar session looks into a hybrid approach towards leadership, simplifying the qualities that combine technology and human ingenuity towards the creation of a trusted and purposeful organisation that is resilient and innovative beyond 2020. There will be no ‘return to normal’.

Leading Through Crisis and Uncertainty: Harnessing Mental Health and Resilience to Navigate Storms of Change

Monday, 20/4/2020
2.00pm - 3.00pm

Having built businesses through multiple economic crises, natural disasters, restrictive and changing policies and regulations, and bouncing back from a life-threatening accident, Azran shares his experiences of harnessing resilience and curiosity to lead teams during turbulence and volatility.

Our brains perceive crises as threats to our survival. It desperately seeks familiar patterns. This leads to cognitive biases where we decide and act based on what we intuitively believe to work. Past successes can limit our ability to challenge these fixed beliefs and be open to new ideas.

Understand the differences between necessary levels of stress to perform at our peak, and how prolonged stress can lead to depression and anxiety that hinders us from being calm, curious and energetic – key crisis leadership traits. Learn practices that strengthen these traits within us, how we build a high-energy team and four practices to embed curiosity and resilience into Board meetings.

Leadership Today: Authentic, Open & Transparent

Thursday, 9/4/2020
2.00pm - 3.00pm

Recently, a lot has changed in a very short period of time. Will the world ever be the same? Working remotely and working from home are becoming the new normal (and this will not disappear immediately in the post-coronavirus world).

In this time of crisis, we need authentic leaders. Traditional wartime leaders, “control-freaks,” and micromanagers can't and will not be able to solve the problems we are facing today. They create more difficulties and add to the confusion. We don't need leaders who just issue specific orders and don't offer their workers a significant degree of autonomy.

Instead, we need a different kind of leader. Leaders who appreciate the value of decentralised systems and collaborative co-creation. Future leadership is about stimulating entrepreneurship, innovation, and creativity. It is about designing a work environment that continuously puts things in perspective, gives workers energy, and helps them overcome the most challenging problems with great humility and empathy.
