The catchphrase has always been ‘if banks hold the money, insurers hold the data’. This has never been truer since personal data is the lifeblood of insurance and takaful services. Without sound data management, product and service offerings by insurance and takaful companies may not be able to be accurately and comprehensively tailored to suit their clients’ needs. Insights on key decisions affecting underwriting, policy pricing, claims settlement and fraud prevention all depend on data collected and harnessed by insurers.

While data-led analysis is paramount to sustainability of insurance and takaful operators, compliance with the Personal Data Protection Act 2010 is also equally important. This refresher session aims to revisit data compliance strategy and enforcement trends for insurance and takaful companies in Malaysia in their transition into a more data and digitally driven industry against the backdrop of the increasingly stringent regulatory framework and higher stakeholder expectations.

This programme seeks to help participants to:

  • UNDERSTAND the current regulatory framework of personal data management and governance.
  • GAIN insights into what matters most now for insurance and takaful operators in terms of data compliance strategy.
  • APPRECIATE the lessons in enforcement trends for personal data protection in Malaysia and abroad.
