Chairman of Malaysian Insurance and Takaful Brokers Association (MITBA)
Congratulations to all graduates of Class of 2020 and Class of 2021. You have attained the best
local professional qualifications in Malaysian insurance practice.
Warmest welcome to the insurance industry! As you may have known by now,
insurance is an exciting, challenging and lucrative profession. Whether you are
working for an insurer, reinsurer, broker, adjuster are even self-employed as an agent,
there are many opportunities to actively engage in insurance practice providing
professional services which are essential to support and protect personal and
corporate assets. The world cannot survive without insurance!
It is heartening to note that the number of graduates has increased by more than
10% from year 2020 to 2021. This is indeed a recognition of the special value of a
professional qualification and you should be proud of it. The cohorts of 2020 and 2021
will be recognized as the pioneers of virtual professional learning programmes
successfully launched by MII during the COVID pandemic. We thank MII’s team for
the efforts and digital-empowered learning is now the new norm.
Not many outside the industry have heard of insurance brokers, let alone understand
their operations. The Broking industry is here to stay, as one of the more prominent
intermediaries within the insurance industry. The Malaysian Insurance and Takaful
Brokers Association (MITBA) will continue to enlighten people outside the industry
on the actual and potential business of insurance broking.
Lastly, as Chairman of MITBA, I hope that some of you will consider a career in
Insurance Broking. Brokers are equipped with the skills to analyze clients' risks
and design their insurance programmes accordingly. The Broking industry will
continue to play a bigger and niched role with their specialist knowledge of insurance
markets, both local and international to meet the evolving demands of our clients.
You are joining a truly honourable industry, I wish you all the best for the future.
Thank you.
