Claims Adjuster
Claims adjusters are responsible for evaluating insurance claims on behalf of insurance companies in order to determine who is liable. They investigate the circumstances of insurance claims by consulting with witnesses, reviewing police reports, and compiling evidence from other sources.
Claims adjusters negotiate claim settlements and oversee that claims are paid out to policyholders.
Key Task
- Investigate the nature of the damage being claimed
- Interview witnesses to understand the nature of the claim
- Create reports detailing the events and damage related to the claim
- Review the claim-holder's insurance policy in order to determine what should be covered
- Examine claim liability
- Prepare and process claim reports
- Consult with specialists (e.g. physicians, engineers)
- Calculate benefits and payments
- Negotiate settlements with claimants
- Examine police reports, videos from surveillance cameras or audio if applicable
- Support attorneys to defend the company in case of contestation
- Gather information from sources, such as police reports
- Prepare reports for use by Claims Examiners
- Investigate questionable claims
